Wigan and Greater Manchester 1 Billion Pound Landfill Solution

Wigan

Appointed advisors for a £1 billion, EU waste treatment programme.

Epiphany have been appointed by Wigan Council to support their project team in the search for a solution to landfilling across the borough. The project, which could culminate in a tie up with the Greater Manchester Waste Disposal Authority (GMWDA) is anticipated to be worth around £1 Billion pounds and is expected to see investment made into an alternative solution to the landfilling of regional waste.

The project has arisen out of European Union legislation seeking to reduce the amount of waste disposed of via landfilling. Stiff fines imposed as a result of a failure to meet EU waste targets could see councils across the UK facing potentially tens of millions in annual fines.

The project, which brings together the combined expertise of Epiphany, Deloitte, and waste specialists ENTEC is expected to deliver its recommendations by March 2009.
